What is the study about?
This is a research study about the development of leaflets to help older people with musculoskeletal pain reduce their use of opioid medications.

The research team has developed two leaflets, a brochure and a personal plan. The first leaflet (brochure) explains what ‘musculoskeletal conditions’ and ‘opioid medications’ are. The second leaflet (personal plan) is a medications diary.

What does the study involve?
The study involves providing your feedback on the design and content of the two leaflets developed by the University of Sydney. Results of this study (your feedback) will help us to develop the final version of these leaflets, which will be used in a large future study.

If you choose to be involved in this study, your role will be to take part in a consumer feedback group. This will involve reading and providing feedback on the two leaflets via an online survey. The leaflets will be sent to you via an online link. All procedures in this study will be conducted online.

It will take you approximately 30 minutes to review and provide feedback on the leaflets.

Am I eligible?
You are eligible to participate in this study if you meet the following criteria, or if you are an un-paid (non-professional) carer for someone who meets the following criteria:

  • 65 years of age or older
  • currently experiencing low back pain, or have a diagnosis of hip or knee osteoarthritis by a medical practitioner
  • be fluent in English
  • have current internet access
  • NO healthcare professional background

You can take part in the study regardless of whether you have or have not used opioid medications before.
